Hello! I may have abandoned this newsletter after DARKEST NIGHT wrapped up, but I did not forget about it! Here is my upcoming appearance schedule, and some sketches.
I’ll be at Once Upon a Time Books in LA on Tuesday, October 3, to chat with Sage Cotungo about their webcomic turned graphic novel, THE GLASS SCIENTISTS! I adore this comic, which is about mad science, gay repression, and hijinks in Victorian London, and you should absolutely preorder it or get it when it comes out in a few days!
I’ll be at NYCC on October 13-15 to celebrate DUNGEON CLUB: ROLL CALL being nominated for a Harvey! Here’s my schedule so far, with more to come.
I’ll be at Lightbox Expo in Pasadena on October 28 for a panel on comics at 4:30pm. It’s also my birthday!
Finally, I’ll be at Thought Bubble in Yorkshire, England on November 11-12 - panels and signings not arranged yet but they will happen.
Sketches!
I’ve been making comics for over a decade, and I’ve realized that I have creative cycles - there are phases when I make a lot of art to share, and phases when I am making work, but it’s all private - messy sketches, personal comics, tons of life drawing, or ideas for new stories that aren’t ready to be seen yet. Also there phases when I don’t make any work and just vibe, and those are important too!
I’m in the second phase, but I wanted to drop back in to share some sketches! I’ve been researching the queer history of the Victorian era, which is FASCINATING and EMOTIONAL and has forced me to learn how to draw HATS and SHOES and SUITS.
These ones are all drawn from old photographs (top right is a fellow with a flower tophat! delightful!):
if you recognize these characters pretend you didn’t
ANYWAY finally here are some drawings of my cats I drew with my finger on a plane because my iPad pencil was dead!

ooh! while not comprehensive, my Tia lives near Dickinson College and I found out through her that they have a digital queer Victorian archive?? like hello?? https://vqa.dickinson.edu/all-items
(John Addington Symonds has this poem called "From Friend to Friend" that makes me giggle and kick my feet in a way i haven't since writing my first johnlock fanfic at 13)
