I’ll be at TxLA this week (the Texas Library Association annual conference) in case any librarians are reading this newsletter and want to come say hi! Meanwhile, in 1888 - Watson has reunited with Holmes, who was living in a hut on the moor and watching his every move like a WEIRDO. This section is entirely invented by me and is shameless fanfiction to advance the plot in my own delusional little brain, please enjoy -
I gotta say one of my absolutely FAVORITE details about this, is John reading the letter, but we only see snippets of the letter like!!! SUCH a good panel! This is probably my favorite of your retellings!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAggghh YES this beautifully captures the tone of the books and I love your inclusion of the full letter, notes and all. This is incredible as ever, il loving this series!
You should know, after I read this update I was so excited I literally ran straight into a desk (I’m okay)
OH MY GOD.
The letter!!! I love Holmes’s little margin notes and crossing out stuff, it really makes it come across how nervous he is (poor guy)
the worry that Watson wouldn’t want to live in 221b Baker Street anymore if he knew 💔
how, even in a love confession, he’s still trying to detach himself from the enormity of the emotion by sounding as impersonal and formal as possible (btw, I also tend to do that when I’m upset, so now there’s an additional example to add onto the 179398 other reasons that Holmes is relatable)
And Watson’s POV!! The Victorian writing style (you NAILED it!) the insecurity, the “one must become accustomed to playing the fool in order to be close to Sherlock Holmes” and OMG the fact that Watson assumed the letter was a joke (these boys are so hopeless)
I am HANGING ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT for the next update
Deeply obsessed with your interpretation of these characters and how it feels like such an easy extension of them. Someone else had commented that it feels like the conversations in your comics between Holmes and Sherlock feel like lost notes from Arthur Conan Doyle's desk and I completely agree. Can't wait to see more, and though I won't be able to make it to flamecon, I hope I'll be able to get my hands on a full length version someday! But just reading it is enough <3
The pain, fear and worry of discovery juxtaposed with the hope that the person who discovers your hidden attraction, not ordinarily permitted in society also shares your feelings, is perfection.

this is making me want to read the original books even though they probably won't live up to this delightful substack series you've created
