the second part of this story! Holmes is being blackmailed and plans to get his compromising letter back. Obviously I’ve had artistic license with this - in the original story, he’s acting on behalf of a woman who is the blackmailer’s target - but in this update almost all of the scenes I’ve drawn are from the original story. they really are that silly.
If Doyle was reacting to Hornung, Hornung clearly reacted to Doyle creating Raffles. Raffles is a criminal version of Holmes, well versed in his "trade" of burglary, and Bunny Manders is probably Watson's biggest rival in terms of literary hero-worship!
oh yes! Raffles is absolutely inspired by Holmes - I just love that Doyle returned the favor in this story, which feels very Rafflesian with all its talk of lock picking and rubber-soled shoes
