I’m doing a livestream with Brennan Lee Mulligan TONIGHT! 5pm PT, 8pm ET. We’re fundraising to send kids to Wayfinder, the LARP camp that we both went to and still work at, and will be chatting about camp and playing games.
Here are some more doodles from my re-read of Sherlock Holmes! First, the Dancing Men:
and Silver Blaze, in which Sherlock Holmes is revealed to be a horse girl:
thanks for reading! See you tonight, perhaps?
You getting really into SH has gotten me to reread all the stories too, and I noticed something in The Three Students 👀👀
So Watson says this, "It was in the year ’95 that a combination of events, into which I need not enter, caused Mr. Sherlock Holmes and myself to spend some weeks in one of our great University towns" . Remember the year 1895, it is very important.
And then later he says this, "It will be obvious that any details which would help the reader to exactly identify the college or the criminal would be injudicious and offensive. So painful a scandal may well be allowed to die out. With due discretion the incident itself may, however, be described, since it serves to illustrate some of those qualities for which my friend was remarkable. I will endeavour in my statement to avoid such terms as would serve to limit the events to any particular place, or give a clue as to the people concerned."
And Holmes and Watson did travel a lot more around then too, especially outside London and even outside the country (they were in Norway, I believe). Guess what else happened in 1895? The trial of Oscar Wilde for "gross indecency". 👀👀👀 And we do know that ACD was friends with Oscar Wilde. And we also know that ACD's views on gay people was way more liberal than most straight people for the time.
Serving what now?
